Panique au village, a stop-motion created by Vincent Patar and Stephanie Aubier is a colourful, nonsensenical, and humorous film that centers around the antics of an Indian named Indien, a cowboy named Coboy, and their straight-laced horse Cheval in a fictional town called Panic. The characters are meant to resemble cheap toy figurines reminiscent of your childhood. The film is a spin-off from the popular five minute long television animations.

Dave Peck is 28 years old, unemployed, and still living at home.  Unhappy with his life, Dave stumbles upon an ad that promises the answers to all of all of life’s complex problems. For only $9.99 the booklet provides simple, easy to follow instructions on how to find the meaning of life. He immediately sets out to share his findings with the world and along his journey meets a variety of eccentric characters whose stories are woven together in an examination of the post-modern meaning of hope. $9.99 is stop-motion puppet animation based on Etgar Keret’s short stories and is directed by Tatia Rosenthal.

Richard’s passion for music and painting led him to create abstract animations by drawing both sound and picture directly onto film. With support from the Canada Council for the Arts, Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the National Film Board of Canada's Filmmaker Assistance Program, he produced several award winning films. His works have screened at festivals around the world including the Museum of Modern Art, Smithsonian Center, Gallerie Nationle de Jue de Paume in Paris and the Toronto International Film Festival. Richard studied animation at the Quickdraw Animation Society, an artist run centre in Calgary, where he eventually worked for 6 years as Film Production Coordinator. He has taught workshops across Canada, Europe and Brazil. Richard continues to explore animation as a time and space art form.

Cordell Barker is considered to be one of Canada’s best animators. He was born in 1956 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and began animating in his late teens after taking on an apprenticeship at Kenn Perkins Animation. His most notable animated shorts include The Cat Came Back (1988) and Strange Invaders (2002), both of which received Oscar nominations. We are excited to premiere his latest film, Runaway (2009).

14- year old Eric Hayes first learnt to animate as a Quickkid more than three years ago. His natural talent and passionate dedication evolved into the creation of his own characters and sets in his parent’s basement. His Claymation short A Recipe for Disaster played at this year’s Calgary International Film Festival and the prestigious Ottawa International Animation Festival. Join Eric as he shares the techniques that inspired him and will excite others new to the art of animation.

Richard Reeves will enlighten audiences with a window into the microscopic motion making world of cameraless animation. Providing free lengths of film for the participants Richard will facilitate the exploration of various techniques including drawing and scratching right on film as well as Richard's new rubber stamp on film technique. The final pieces will be edited together and projected that night at the closing GALA event!
