24 MEMES PER SECOND ARTIST TALK
STREAMING AT | WATCH.FFYYC.CA
DISCORD WATCH PARTY | NOV. 23, 7PM MST
The anonymous animators behind 24memespersecond have clearly tapped into something. Their affectionately satirical take on experimental animation's past and present mixes the relatable (working too much! struggling with confidence!) and the undeniably niche (who else is making memes about accessibility at the Center for Visual Music in LA?). Unafraid to go out on a limb for the art they love and call out the practices they hate, they've created a space to encourage other artists and talk about talk about issues in a refreshingly direct way. They're also funny as hell.
In this artist talk, we spoke to the anonymous admins about the meta-verse, their GIRAF screening pack, and how they found themselves making a platform for experimental animators around the world to come together and share, laugh, advocate for each other. We dug into why encourage animators to work faster and messier, and why you shouldn't conflate success with sacrifice. It's a wide-ranging conversation that's essential listening for anyone embarking on a career in independent animation.
