Transcendental Animation started off as a pun written on a notepad of future programming ideas, and has grown into a minor obsession. This is the first year we've been able to bring it to the festival, though, and honestly, it couldn't be more timely.
For the most part, the films in this package are calm, contemplative, meditative and abstract. There are a couple of exceptions — we always have to keep you on your toes, after all — but on the whole, the goal of Transcendental Animation is to allow you to tune in and bliss out. Like any good meditation, the key here is to take the films as they are. Don't worry about figuring them out as they're happening, just enjoy the textures, bask in the images, and see where it takes you. You might be surprised.
Please note: Ticket purchases are restricted to Alberta residents. Many films at GIRAF deal with mature subjects, and are not recommended for young audiences.
