At the height of the Angolan civil war, Nayola leaves her young daughter and mother to search for her husband, who has gone missing in action during the fight for independence. Nayola’s search takes her to the front of the conflict, and embeds her in the community of men and women struggling to survive and thrive as the violence drags on. 14 years later, the war is over, and Nayola's daughter Yara receives an unexpected visitor: a jackal-faced man with unknown intentions.
Nayola and Yara’s stories, past and present, intertwine in this vibrant, poetic and mystical story of love, war and magic.
