A meditation on the quest of cultivating an atmosphere of infinite love within the heart of queer party spaces through creation and connection. Taking place at Loophole Coffee Bar, we will kick the party off with an artist talk highlighting animation artist Daniel Volante. We will explore the vulnerability of the act of partying and how it encourages us to carry ourselves authentically through play, experimentation, and self-acceptance, one of the main driving forces for the creation of Volante’s short film Free Tonight, made with the Quickdraw Animation Society as part of the Intermediate Animators Production Residency. After the talk, we will transition into the second segment of the event, where we’ll dance our hearts out rave-style with live DJing and remixed animated visuals.
Schedule:
7PM to 7:45PM - Daniel Volante Artist talk
7:45PM to 8:15PM - Q and A
---- Intermission ----
9PM - 12AM - DJ and VJ performances
Daniel Volante is a Filipino multi-disciplinary artist based in Calgary, with a current focus on experimental animation. Themes in his work include nostalgia, identity, and connection, abstracting past life experiences as a tool to enrich and personalize his art. He is heavily inspired by magical realism and unconventional visual textures, as well as retro video games and the music, aesthetics, and storytelling that stem from them. He hopes that my work connects to those still figuring themselves out, especially fellow young people of colour, and inspires them to freely create and live authentically.
